Postcard exchange
Lanner House Preschool is part of a postcard exchange with other preschools based mainly in the USA. The postcard exchange runs from September 2011 to April 2012. Each month we send a postcard to 5 different preschools and hopefully receive 5 postcards back. This is an exciting way for us to connect with other preschools around the world. 27 October 2011 - Our concert "An unbelievable picnic"
What a fabulous evening we enjoyed last week as all our youngest Lanner House children kept us royally entertained with the story of “The Unbelievable Picnic”. Many hours of work go into producing a preschool concert of this quality and our little stars had spent countless hours rehearsing and memorising words and actions. Our fabulous preschool teachers also starred in the show and appeared on stage in full costume!To see more photos click here.

21 October 2011 - "A Night in Hollywood"
What a wonderful evening we had! From a red carpet entrance, welcome drinks, a beautifully decorated hall, fabulous music provided by vocal group, Arida, a delicious meal and dessert, fun and dancing - it was an evening to remember and one that will surely become an annual event. 14 September 2011 - Making chocolate covered marshmallows
Today we made yummy marshmallow treats! We had to put marshmallows and pieces of banana onto a stick. Then dip it into melted chocolate. Then we sprinkled on hundreds and thousands and nuts - SO yummy! We had lots of fun.

8 September 2011 - A dentist visits the Preschool
Today Dr Hartze came to talk to us about looking after our teeth. She showed us how to brush our teeth and how to floss our teeth. She also showed us how a dentist looks in our mouth to check if all our teeth are healthy! Dr Hartze gave us each a gift bag with some tooth paste and mouth wash and colouring in pictures. She also gave us a teeth brushing chart. The children really enjoyed it and hopefully they learnt something about taking good care of their teeth!

7 September 2011 - "Raising a sensory smart child"
This evening Maritha du Plooy (a local occupational therapist) presented a talk on "Raising a sensory smart child". It was very worthwhile with some background and information on the topic and some practical ideas on how best to treat a child in the different categories.
Thank-you to those who attended, we had a great turn out.

5 September 2011 - Dr Theron comes to visit
As part of our theme "Occupation: health - doctor and dentist", Dr Theron (Anja Theron's dad) came to visit us at school. He taught us to live healthy and to be active in order to prevent getting sick. If we have to go to the doctor he showed us some of the things the doctor will check. Dr Theron said that doctors are our friends, they want to help us and not to hurt us.

31 August 2011 - An outing to the fire station
Today the Preschool visited the fire station as part of our theme "Occupation: safety - policemen and firemen". The fireman showed us their uniform, how to "STOP, DROP and ROLL and how he slides down the poll. We all went into the fire engine and heard the loud siren it has! We also took turns to spray water from the hose and try on the fireman's hat! I'm sure there were lots of stories that went home today!

23 August 2011 - A vet visits the Preschool
Today Dr Walles came to talk to us about caring for our pets. She taught us a poem that will help us remember just what our pets needs! Dr Walles brought Moo and Mrs Moo, two guinea pigs, with her, that we all got to stroke. Jonty, a big toy dog, also came along to tell us what dogs like! Dr Walles gave us all gift bags which included a treat for our pets and a treat for us! Thanks for coming Dr Walles, we really enjoyed your visit!

11 August 2011 - Grade R outing to the Worcester Flying Club
Today the Grade R class went to the Worcester Flying Club as part of the theme focusing on "wind and air transport". They were all very excited to see the air crafts and have a chance to be the pilot for a few minutes!

3 August 2011 - We made aeroplane biscuits
Today the children were given some biscuits, a few sweets and some icing and asked to create an aeroplane! The designs were wonderful, very creative and all very different! And the best part....they tasted great too!

29 July 2011 - Letterland day
Today the Preschoolers came dressed up as their favourite Letterland character.
Each child had an opportunity to introduce themselves and show off their outfits!
Many of the Letterland songs were sung and there was an excitement in the air!
It was a fun day for the children and as an added bonus our parents know many more Letterland characters than they did before!

23 June 2011 - Making french toast
Today at the preschool we all made french toast. The children mixed their own eggs and milk, dipped the bread into the mixture and fried the toast. Once it was ready they spread some syrup on and then enjoyed as they ate it!
It was a great experience and the smell of fresh french toast wafted in the school for a long time!

15 June 2011 - Pyjama Day
Today was "Pyjama Day" at Lanner House! For a donation of R10 pupils could wear their pyjamas to school and were treated to hot chocolate and marshmallows. While enjoying the warm drinks the Grade 7 pupils came and read stories to the Preschool classes. They all looked so snuggly and warm, perfect for the stormy day!

3 June 2011 - FANSA presentation
Today the children from the Toddler group to Grade 3 enjoyed a presentation on "Germs and keeping our bodies healthy". The children were entertained through stories, songs and role play.
They were fascinated by "Gerry Germ", seen in the photo. Tyler (Grade 00), Ilani (Grade 2) and Vida (Toddlers) were chosen to be the surgeon, anesthetist and nurse and Nathan (Grade3) the patient.
Each child was given a surgical mask and gloves and given the opportunity to listen to their heartbeats. By the end of the day many of the children had their sample of plaster of Paris on their fingers! It was a fun, wonderful presentation with many lessons learnt and healthy habits reinforced.

1 June 2011 - Baking and making
Today the children in all the groups made their own bread creations.
Some children sculptured wonderful dinosaurs, while others just enjoyed the sensory experience!
The smell of freshly baked bread wafted throughout the Preschool building the whole day and there was much excitement when it was time to take their bread home.

24 May 2011 - Kleinplasie Reptile Park visit the Preschool

Today we had a visit from Bjorn and his reptile friends from the Kleinplasie Reptile Park.
We were shown different types of snakes, some small and some very big (!) and a rock monitor. The children were amazed and listened with interest. Francois in Grade R was the brave volunteer who put his hand into a bag and pulled out a snake!
